Rejoice, the Lord is Near!

The great Feast of Christmas is near; may we have hearts ready to receive Him!

We are celebrating Gaudete Sunday. We rejoice that the first coming of Jesus is near, and we are probably rushing to get our Christmas plans ready. This is a time that we balance our spiritual needs with our physical needs. This is normal, and we must be vigilant so we can do what we need to do for our spiritual and social lives.

This is a blessed time.

Our Gospel Portion today is St. Matthew 11:2-11. We will pray over,

“The blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.”
Matthew 11:5

Jesus speaks in response to St. John the Baptist about who Jesus is. Jesus is the one we need to wait for. Jesus is the only one who can bring us the healing that we need. St. John the Baptist, soon after he received this message, would be martyred because he lived the truth and preached it. St. John the Baptist’s mission was completed. He prepared the way for Jesus.

St. John the Baptist prepares us each year during the Advent Season. Are we listening to his message of repentance?

We have these next few days to prepare ourselves for the birth of Jesus in our lives again.

Do not miss the healing that Jesus has in store for us!

Happy Gaudete Sunday!

Pax. The Hermit of Peace.
