Being Tempted is a Reality!

Jesus reveals how we respond!

Welcome to the First Sunday of Lent 2025!

We begin this sacred time always in celebration of the holy time of Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness as He prepared for His mission to humanity. Here we renew our mission to ourselves and the world!

Our Gospel Portion is taken from St. Luke 4: 1-13 and we will concentrate on the following,

And Jesus answered, “It is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.’ ” Luke 4:8

Jesus had to go through three temptations from the evil one after His 40-day fast. He was in a weakened state, but He relied on Father God and was victorious over these temptations. In doing so, Jesus modeled for us how to deal with the temptations to do the wrong thing in our lives.

Temptations are a reality, it is how we deal with them that matters!

The Son of God, Jesus, came to teach us how to live out our true selves in a world that is not comfortable with the truth! There are so many easy answers to our problems and many of these answers are contrary to our true selves as images of God in the world. In our selection today we see our focus. If any action takes us from the true worship of God, then it is not appropriate for us!

During this sacred time of Lent, may we work on ourselves so that our lives mirror Jesus in all that we say and do, now and ages unending! Amen!

Rejoice and Be Glad in Jesus!

Jesus will make a way!

The message of Jesus is so profound yet it it is so contrary to the way humans approach life. However, if we aim to fulfill the Way of Jesus, Heaven would be in our hearts and that Heaven would radiate from us through our world!

Our Gospel Portion today is the Sermon of the Plains, this is found in the Gospel of St. Luke 6: 17-26. Our selection is as follows:

“Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on the account of the Son of Man!

Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in Heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.”

Luke 6:22-23

If we would take Jesus seriously, there is nothing that people would say and/or do to us that would destroy us! The real relationship that matters is our relationship with Jesus! We are built on the shoulders of those who took Jesus seriously! For the first 300 years of Christianity, being faithful could lead to be to being executed. Yet they were faithful unto death!

An example only 10 years ago, 21 people were beheaded, and the execution was filmed by their executioners. The executioner were members of ISIS. These Coptic Christians refused to renounce Jesus! These Christians truly lived the words of Jesus and they speak to us today that Jesus Is All! It has encouraged me to be more faithful and thousands of others.

Hopefully we will not have to experience execution physically for Jesus, but in little ways we may experience the hate of others because Jesus Is All for us!

May we never let anyone take Jesus away from us!

Jesus is our Heaven and we will experience Heaven here and now in Him!

Have an awesome Sunday!

Life is Christ!

Feed on Him and Live!

We continue with Jesus the Bread of life which is so important for those who follow Jesus! We must feed on Him because He is our life! We read in St. John’s Gospel,

So, Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you will have no life in you…” John 6:35

There are so many distractions in our lives, with all the craziness, the Presidential Election in the U. S., all the wars around the world, and everything that we see in the news, without the right food, Jesus, we may enter despair and depression!

But if we feed on Jesus despair and depression will not be the final result!

However, since the Jesus’ time, there have been forces determined to destroy the food of our only hope in a world bent on self destruction. Faith tells us that these forces cannot win. We see in the Cross that, though these forces nailed our Hope to the Tree, our Hope rose on the third day.

Eat Jesus and keep rising!

Taste and See the Goodness of the Lord!

Eternal Life is Ours!

Jesus makes us a promise in today’s selection from the Gospel of St. John. We read,

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats if this bread, he will live forever.” John 6:51

When we consume Jesus, we partake of His Divine Life and it changes how we live in the world! As people living in the world, we will have struggles, but they cannot destroy us.

We join the Lord who turned the instrument of death, the Cross, into the instrument of life eternal!

Eternal life is ours if we feed on Jesus, in His word and in the Sacraments!

Every cross we have to deal with becomes the key to resurrection! We, through Jesus, overcome all that is meant to destroy us!

Feeding on Jesus will bring us through all things, if we surrender to Him and let Him take control of all of the situations that we go through! Even the final cross, our earthly death, cannot have the final say, or to put it as St. Paul said,

“O death where is thy sting or grave where is thy victory.” 1 Cor 15:55

Feed on Jesus and have Eternal Life!

Eternal Life Now!

Little One, Rise!

God became one of us so that we will become like God! Jesus modeled for us the Victorious Life. Today’s Gospel selection helps us see how Jesus will help us live in victory.

We read in St. Mark’s Gospel,

Taking her hand He (Jesus) said, “Tal’itha cu’mi”; which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” Mark 5:41

The crowd that was around this girl thought that she was dead. However, Jesus continue with her parents and His Apostles to minister to her. The parents trusted in Jesus and they were rewarded with victory over death.

Trusting Jesus leads to victory!

Things may seem dead in our lives. We may feel hopeless! But there is a prayer for that,

“Jesus, I surrender all things to you, take care of everything!”

Trusting in Jesus changes our!

Do We Have Faith!

There are storms in our lives that we must go through! It is foolish to try to avoid them! But faith in Jesus, the Master of All, is with us, if we have faith in Him!

We read in St. Mark’s Gospel,

And He (Jesus) said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?”

Mark 4:40

Jesus had these questions to ask His disciples who were with Him in a boat and they were experiencing a terrible storm. They were fearful because it was a dangerous situation. It was a life or death experience. The Disciples did not know who they were with, Jesus, so they thought they all were doomed. However, they had enough sense to call on Jesus and He spoke to the Storm, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39.

The message is this, we know Jesus, and whatever storm comes our way, we know what to do: Call on Jesus!

Surrender whatever we are going through to Jesus, do whatever we are able to do and say to Him,

I put all of my hope in You!

Jesus has Victory over every storm!

Have an awesome Sunday!

LOVE WINS!

Happy Resurrection Sunday!

There is great power in Jesus, but we must understand today, Resurrection Sunday.

We read in St. John’s Gospel,

They (Peter and John) did not yet understand the Scripture that He had to rise from the dead.

John 20:9

The understanding of the Resurrection’s significance in our lives is essential in order to tap into the power of the Resurrection in our lives. Jesus did not rise and disappear! He stayed with His Disciples for 40 days! They had to be taught! The event of the Resurrection is the central point in in history! No one has ever been nailed to the cross with witnesses that could testify to seeing a person die and be buried and on the third day rise from the tomb!

After 40 days of instruction, in ten days immediately following Ascension Thursday, when Jesus ascended to the right hand of Father God, God sent the Holy Ghost to finish the instruction! Christianity is the product of this instruction!

And we are not finished yet!

Easter Sunday, Resurrection Day, is not over! We have 50 days to be instructed by the Word, our spiritual reading and our meditation!

We need this time because if we can understand the Resurrection, we know that nothing can destroy us!

In the final analysis, LOVE WINS!

Let Us Follow Jesus!

Let Us Rise with Him!

Happy Palm Sunday!

Today we enter into the ending of our Lenten Fast, and the beginning of Holy Week! We enter into the culmination of the Incarnation! And we enter this time with great exuberance! We read in St. Mark’s Gospel,

“Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the Kingdom of our father David that is to come! Hosanna in the highest!”

Mark 11:10

Let us be one with Jesus as He travels through this week of His Passion and Death!

If we stay with Jesus, though we will suffer because of the ever-present evil that is around us, though we may get misunderstood by those around us, we will experience the Victory in Christ!

The more we find time to walk with Jesus this week, the greater our blessings will be.

No matter what we are going through, remember that in Jesus we will find the Victory of peace, joy and love!

Have a blessed Palm Sunday and a blessed Holy Week!

Let us keep each other in prayer!

Be Faithful Like Jesus!

Jesus models for us how to deal in any situation, be faithful to God!

We read in the Gospel of St. John,

“If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there shall My servant be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.” John 12:26

We must look at this Gospel selection from the context that we are in liturgically. We are in the Season of Lent, the last days of that season and in the time called Passiontide.  We are preparing our hearts for Holy Week.

In this time, we know that Jesus would experience some horrendous abuse of those in authority in His culture. Jesus would experience denials and betrayals of those near and dear to Himself. Jesus would ultimately be murdered on the Cross. Yet He remained faithful through it all. Jesus would be honored by Father God and He would rise again!

Jesus is the Model for us all!

Our entering into the Passion of Jesus is not just for the days leading up to the Glorious Resurrection Sunday. Rather, Jesus sets a pattern for all of us follow in how we to live as His followers.

We will rise again regardless of whatever we have to experience! There is no stopping a child of God!

Have a most blessed and fruitful Passiontide!

Joy Matters!

Happy Laetare Sunday!

We celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Lent. We are at the middle section of the Lenten Fast and we have already come so far in the Holy Season. Our selection from the Gospel of St. John reminds us why, no matter what we are going through, we can choose joy. We read from the text:

For God so loved the world that he gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life.

John 3:16

This message is our base! When life gets ugly, and the storms are raging, John 3:16 reminds us that whatever we are going through, it will pass. Jesus will get us through everything we have to deal with if we give it to Him!

Enjoy this wonderful reminder of why we have Lent. It is all about Jesus. He came into the world so that the power of sin and death cannot, will not, have the final say.

Be joyful. We have Victory in Jesus.
